My client is currently recruiting a Design Project Managerwith Rail/Station/RC Structures experience to join their team on a major HS2 station build in Birmingham.

The successful Design Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • Manage the AWJV design contract including cost control and contract admin activities. Coordinate management of communications (EWs, GCs, CEs, TQs), cascading this information to the relevant Design Delivery Managers, follow up, chase actions, attend RRMs and provide responses. Optimise the process and provide consistency.
  • Change Control: Manage project-wide design scope and manage design change, maintaining a record of changes across packages, making sure any change from design is captured and follows the process.
  • Programme: Manage project-wide design programme and manage design programme change.
  • Cost & Programme reviews: Support the Design Delivery Managers on the cost and programme reviews for the work packages to ensure a better and more coordinated review on these two key areas.
  • Support the head of Design on regular, dashboard-based design status reporting.
  • Liaise closely with the Consultant Design PM and HS2 Design PM to ensure clear and consistent messaging on design through the IPT.
  • Responsible for the implementation of TACs, instruction to the Consultant and preparation of quotations.
  • Ensure TIDP’s and MIDP’s are produced in a timely manner and ensure deliverable are tracked through the assurance process. Support Design Delivery Managers in preparation of Work Package MIDs and be responsible for the preparation of project-wide MIDP.
  • Ensure consistency across all design work packages with respect to contract admin, reporting,
  • programme, change and quality.
  • Help ensure that the consultant delivers best value design services for the client.

My client requires the Design Project Manager to have:

  • Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
  • Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related).
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
  • Have excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, both written and verbal and the ability to report at both Project and Board level.
  • Ability to manage teams of people in a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage own time.
  • A good working knowledge of the:

a) Health & Safety at Work Act 1974,

b) Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996

c) Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015

d) Management of health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and

e) other relevant legislation
