Infrastructure Manager

Salary: Negotiable salary, in the vicinity of £45k per annum, dependant on experience

Location: Minffordd, Penrhyndeudraeth, North Wales.

Here on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways we are looking to consolidate our position as one of the premier heritage railways in the UK. We are looking for a knowledgeable and multi-talented Infrastructure Manager to lead our Infrastructure Department and influence the development of railway infrastructure across the heritage railway sector.

This is a full time, permanent position, based at our Infrastructure Depot in Minffordd, Penrhyndeudraeth.

As one of the UK’s leading Heritage Railways we have big plans for ensuring our railway is sustainable for many years to come. The successful applicant will be a member of the Senior Management team with direct responsibility for the Infrastructure of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways and with overall responsibility for managing the following departmental teams:

• Permanent Way
• Signalling & Telecoms
• Buildings, Structures & Earthworks
• Lineside Clearance
• Information Technology

The Infrastructure manager has responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of our assets and the planning and delivery of our annual ‘Winter Works Programme’. This annual programme is carried out every winter over a period of 20 weeks, whilst the railway is closed to traffic.

The successful applicant will also be a key member of the team that plans and oversees the railway’s Capital Development Project Work, currently focussed on improving our facilities at our Boston Lodge and Dinas workshops. You will also have responsibility for leading the competence development of our team of paid and voluntary staff within the Infrastructure Department. Collaboratively working with our Safety Professional, you will be expected to work on a programme of continuous safety improvement that is forward thinking and in line with current legislation.

Core Skills:

• Proven and extensive experience of railway infrastructure
• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional experience
• Experience of senior level management
• Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
• Experience in managing a significant budget
• Fully competent in the use of IT
• Membership of a relevant professional body would be an advantage
• The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable
