Thales’s Rail Signalling group has a worldwide presence, with approximately 3,000 people delivering signalling solutions to over 100 different customers in more than fifty countries. We develop and deliver urban and main line rail signalling technology solutions. In the UK we are currently working in association with Tube Lines to deliver signalling upgrade programmes on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.
The signalling technology, that Thales has developed - Transmission Based Train Control (TBTC) - will lead to increased capacity on London Underground trains by enabling a seventh car to be added to each train and will also mean a more frequent service because of the ability to run trains closer together.
We are currently working on the Jubilee Line upgrade and are commencing work in early summer on the Northern Line. Upgrade work on the Piccadilly Line is scheduled to commence in 2011, with a project end date of 2014.
