I am currently recruiting for 2 Clerk of Works to join my client, a large transport maintenance operation based in Central London.
Concentrating on one of the city's new cycling initiatives, the Clerk of Works will be required to oversee the construction phase of this project, and this will include the following:
Undertake checks of setting out on site – to ensure the site is properly located in accordance with the planning permission, and that the site accords with the traffic management and site safety plans provided.
Undertake checks during excavation – to ensure the manner and method of excavation complies with the planning permission, required standards and guidelines.
Undertake checks during construction of LCHS Structures, mainly foundations and backfill – to ensure compliance with designs, planning permission and relevant standards.
Ensure that works are carried in accordance with statutory and local requirements, best practice and commitments made by TfL to protect the environment. This includes adhering to the planning permission, in particular, the Aboricultural Implications, the Assessment, the Archaeological Impacts Assessment and working near sites of conservation importance.
Liaison with named environmental professionals within relevant authorities, e.g. Tree officers, Conservation officers, Environmental Health Officers.
The ideal Clerks of Works will need to have the following experience/knowledge:
Highways Authority and Utilities Committee (HAUC), New Roads & Street Works Act, Supervision Qualified
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Safety Certificate
Proven experience of CDM 2007
Experience in a similar role supervising the installation of street furniture and ducting in projects in urban areas
Knowledge of the following Standards:
British Standard BS 5837:2005, Trees in relation to construction.
National Joint Utilities Group’s advice, including Guidelines for the Planning, Installation and Maintenance of Utility Apparatus in Proximity to Trees. Volume 4.
New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 – including Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways.
