As a Principle Design Engineer your responsibilites will be to:
Undertake the role of Contractor’s Engineering Manager (Design)
Check or Approve designs as instructed by the Head of Permanent Way Design
Regularly update the Head of Permanent Way Design on survey/design progress
Ensure that all allocated designs are produced in due time
Ensure that robust quality controls and checking systems are in place
Ensure that design, construction and maintenance risks are identified and mitigated during the design stages
Ensure that Temporary Non Compliances and Derogation to standards are obtained when required
Ensure Value Engineering through Particular Specification reviews and engaging with external designers (e.g. S&C designers)
Ensure the interface with other disciplines is effective
Lead Inter-Disciplinary Checks and constructability reviews
Attend or be represented at Inter-Disciplinary Reviews
Ensure the competence and development of Designers
Control the issue of designs to the client and to the production teams
Adequately communicate and explain designs to the construction teams
Obtain feedback from the construction teams post design setting out and construction
Attend all technical and safety briefings and cascade to own team
Provide design information to the CDM-Coordinator representative for inclusion in the Health and Safety file
Assist in internal and external audits and verifications
Weekend / Night duty as required
Collate and complete as-built survey/design information as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
Essential
Education to HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent suitable experience
Robust experience in permanent way design
Strong experience and knowledge in traditional and modern survey and design techniques
Strong knowledge of permanent way renewals techniques
Proven experience in the use of MX / BRT / CAD for Permanent Way Design
Computer literacy
Health & Safety management
Robust knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM regulations, Network Rail Standards and Group Standards
Must be able to drive
Desirable
Knowledge of accident investigation techniques
