Our client is responsible for managing and maintaining WA’s metropolitan railway infrastructure, and for protecting the long-term viability of the State’s freight rail corridor and infrastructure. Due to the highly publicized growth in Western Australia our client is looking for a Principal Overhead Engineer to manage the operational performance of all the Overhead Wiring Equipment system; including the planning & scheduling of all maintenance & repairs (and / or) the coordination of all Overhead Wiring Equipment projects for the network. In addition you will be accountable for managing all human / financial & physical resources within the traction power section.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing the operational performance of the overhead wiring equipment (OHWE) including the planning and scheduling of maintenance and repairs for the OHWE infrastructure across the rail network to ensure compliance with safety legislation and operational procedures and policies. Please be aware the network operates on a 25KV

Contributing to the development of the Branch’s business plan planning strategies and actions and their implementation

Preparing the OHWE’s asset management plans, ensuring planning requirements are incorporated into the capital investment process

Providing engineering expertise for 25kVac OHWE maintenance, design, construction, upgrades and modifications to the existing network.


To be suitable for this role you must….

Degree in Engineering (Electrical) to allow eligibility for membership to the Institute of Engineers (Australia) in the category of Chartered Professional Engineer.

Demonstrated extensive recent experience in design/maintenance of 25kVac Overhead Wiring Equipment and proven knowledge of rail safety.

Experience in project management and contract management.


This role offers a package of AUD$116k - $124k + 9% super + benefits + relocation (this can’t be negotiated up so please ensure expectations match)

Being an Australian Permanent Resident would be beneficial, however suitably qualified overseas individuals are encouraged to apply with our client assisting the emigration process to make the transition as smooth as possible. All costs associated with 457 visa / relocation / accommodation & orientation on arrival will be covered. In addition further financial assistance with your Permanent Residency (PR) are also offered.
