Our Heavy Rail Business Unit is a 200 strong employer of rail professionals developing and delivering multi-disciplinary design solutions across permanent way, signalling, telecoms, electrical, mechanical, civils and geotechnical engineering. Recent impressive project wins with Network Rail and national major Contractors have provided opportunities to grow our resource pool at all levels across our UK offices with current key projects including Crossrail, HS2 (London/Birmingham/Manchester), S&C Renewals programme, Borders Railway, North Doncaster Chord, CASR and a wide ranging portfolio across the UK and internationally.


The Role

URS are currently recruiting for a Project Manager for our Heavy Rail Business Unit in Glasgow.

The Glasgow Mini Operating Unit is responsible for the delivery of railway system designs covering; Civil. Signalling, Telecommunications, Permanent Way, OLE and E&P disciplines.

The role will be to act as Project Manager for Heavy Rail projects being delivered within the North area of the Business Unit. Projects will be in a Railway environment and multi-disciplinary in nature. The post holder will be required to manage the Projects within URS Governance using company processes and systems.

Ideally the successful candidate will hold a Degree in a suitable engineering discipline as well as a recognised project management qualification; although candidates with strong rail project management experience will be considered.

We are looking for a proven project manager with experience of managing multi-disciplinary rail projects and negotiating commercial, financial and contractual arrangements, managing bids and design commissions.
The post reports to a MOU Manager within the Heavy Rail Business Unit which forms part of the Transportation Sector. The post holders will have line management responsibility for all staff under their control. The role does require travel UK wide to our various offices.



Education/Qualifications:

Degree in relevant discipline (desirable)
Project Management qualification (desirable)
Membership of relevant professional body (desirable)

Experience:

Requires a wide knowledge and understanding of all the Rail disciplines, together with a deep understanding of one of these disciplines.

People management skills including communication skills are important. The Project Manager will have acquired such skills over at least 5 years delivering successful projects, preferably within a Railway environment.

Proven successful project management experience.

Evidence of good working relationships and reputation with key clients.
