The role of the Lead Engineer – SISS would be to provide the point of reference for all engineering aspects relating to the delivery of Station Information and Surveillance System (SISS) within telent Rail. The role would have a direct report to the telent Rail Engineering Manager.The role requires the Lead Engineer to have expert knowledge in the design and implementation of each SISS sub-systems being delivered into the station environment, specifically:
o Security CCTV
o Customer Information Systems
o Public Address and Induction Loops
o Voice Announcements
o Help Points
o Access Control
o Clocks
o Ticketting
o Data Networks
o Station Management Systems
The Lead Engineer must be an effective communicator and will be directly involved with the projects external stakeholders (both customers and suppliers) and the telent Rail delivery teams. The role will involve both direct project responsibilities as the Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and indirect responsibilities through expert consultation. The role will be required to co-ordinate the design activities being performed by junior engineering staff. The role would also have the wider responsibility to all telent businesses to provide technical consultancy.
Where directly involved in a project as CRE, the objectives of the Lead Engineer role are :-
o Lead the delivery of the system design with overall responsibilities for the approval of all engineering documentation, ensuring compliance to the contract, including all relevant standards and legislation.
o Approve the methodology of all site works, ensuring that all risks have been mitigated to as low as reasonable practicable.
o Ensure all engineering resource has the correct competency for the task they are performing.
o Ensure all works performed do not import unplanned risk into the Operational Railway.
o Across all SISS projects, the Lead Engineer would have the objective of ensuring that the methodologies applied are consistent and maximise the efficiencies to be gained from delivering repeated work scope
o .In a business development role, the Lead Engineer will be expected to establish a technical interface with key suppliers and have an understanding of the pertinent market trends.
o Where telent Rail are tendering for SISS related contracts, the Lead Engineer will have the objective to deliver compliant, cost effective technical solutions and to be able to coherently present these solutions to perspective customers.
Experience in design and implementation of the above sub-systems into a transport related environment (either individually or as an integrated system). Specific product knowledge on the following suppliers :-

§ Data Displays
§ ASL
§ Complus
§ Gai-tronics
o Ability to lead a technical function, presenting an authority for all SISS related projects
o Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to persuade and influence, working closely with internal and external stakeholders
o Ability to analyse and interpret complex system requirements and to establish methodologies that deliver compliant cost effective designs, that meet customer expectations for quality.
o Working knowledge of DDA and CDM regulations.
