Structures Engineer
London

This is your chance to bring your civil engineering expertise to bear on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) – Europe’s most technically complex light rail operation.

With a network of 40 stations and another five coming on line by 2011, including two in the 2012 Olympic Games area, the DLR transports thousands of people every day. Join us and you’ll become our expert in civil engineering, making sure that our civil infrastructure meets the needs of the people of London.

You will be involved in monitoring and reviewing the management of the railway’s civil infrastructure assets by the franchisee’s and concessionaires. You’ll also be advising on, assessing and reviewing all our civil infrastructure projects, helping to make sure they’re completed successfully, safely and on budget. That means reviewing documents, inspecting sites and coming up with new ideas to improve the ways we maintain our structures.

Working closely with engineering, project, planning and development teams, you’ll be a confident communicator, with the presence to influence everyone from engineers and franchisees to board directors. You’ll ideally have a background in railways or similar, and will be comfortable working on large-scale, big budget projects involving a number of organisations. With a degree or equivalent in a civil engineering area, membership of a relevant professional institution, you’ll also be flexible about working across different engineering areas.

At the DLR we were recently awarded one star in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For awards – the first time we’d entered. As part of Transport for London, we also offer plenty of opportunities for your career development.
