Supplier Quality Engineer – East Midlands
We are recruiting for a global rail organisation which offers turnkey solutions to railway projects covering the construction, operation and management of railway infrastructure and rolling stock. Significant projects are currently being undertaken in the Far East (Hong Kong) where the organisation is responsible for the management of the metro system. Covering new build, maintenance and expansion of both the rail infrastructure (track, station and signalling) and rolling stock (trains).
The supply chain supporting the operation is internationally based with significant volumes of raw material and products coming from the UK and Europe. Out of their UK premises (East Midlands) the company co-ordinates supplier qualification and verification of all parts and materials prior to shipment to the Far East. Due to expansion and long term restructuring they are now looking to recruit an additional Supplier Quality Engineer.
The role will be predominantly field based (3 days per week) working on site with suppliers based within the UK and Europe. Occasionally there may be some travel to Africa and the Americas. Over the course of a year you could expect to make up to 80 site visits across a supplier base of 50 suppliers.
Key responsibilities of the role centre around the inspection and witness testing of manufactured materials to ensure specifications and standards are achieved. In the event non-conformances are identified the individual will be required to recommend a course of corrective action and further be responsible for ensuring this is adhered to (re-check). The role will also involve you carrying out the audit of the supplier quality systems/manufacturing processes.
The products dealt with can range from basic raw material to electrical components and detailed electro/mechanical sub-assemblies.
To be considered for this role as a minimum you must be degree qualified within an engineering/manufacturing discipline and strong consideration will be given to those individuals that are incorporated or an associate member of a professional institution. Further you need to have direct experience of working with the rail industry, preferably within rolling stock or alternatively infrastructure or signalling. Please note this can include manufacturing companies that supply products/materials into these industries.
In terms of specific job experience clearly individuals that have carried out SQA based roles will be given strong consideration but equally we are keen to hear form candidates whom have carried out Quality management roles internally for a manufacturing company. Please note the manufacturing company must be supplying parts/materials into the rail industry and ideally you will have been involved in SQA from either a supplier or customer perspective.
The role offers a competitive remuneration package, guide salary of £45k + company car + BUPA + Life Assurance. Long term this role offers an excellent opportunity to progress as part of the need is driven by succession planning and currently there are 2 further grades in advance to this position.
Clearly candidates will need to be prepared for extensive travel and note consideration could be given to individuals working 1 day a week from home if they are not local to the office.
We are looking to interview ASAP so if you are interested then either email CV to jobs@shorterm.co.uk or call 0845 241 1232 and speak with Nick or Rob. Please quote reference SQE-Rail on all correspondence.
PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE THE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE, DO NOT SEND CV ON SPECULATIVE BASIS.
