Art at Slough

April 29th 2005

Budding young artists in Slough have been given a chance to help brighten up the town’s railway station.

Children from St Ethelbert’s Catholic First School, Wrexham Road, Slough, entered a competition set by the First Great Western Link station to paint a picture with a railway theme. The 14 best entries have now been chosen and these will be framed and hung in pride of place inside the station with the name of each artist displayed under each painting.

Eddie Slavin, Slough Station Manager, says, “The station is an important part of the community and we want to reach out to local people and get them more involved. We’re also trying to brighten up the station to make it more attractive for our customers so this competition seemed an excellent way of combining these two objectives. Railways are usually popular with children and we had lots of superb entries to this competition. In fact, the standard was so high that it was really tough to pick the winners. The main thing is that the children enjoyed themselves!”

The paintings will be officially hung in the station later in the spring.
