A pioneer of Silverlink Metro, Tom Joyner, is the new operations director for First Capital Connect. Tom joins from First Great Western where he was route director, high speed services. Says Elaine Holt, managing director of FCC, ‘Tom Joyner’s track record for his career to date is impressive. The upcoming operational challenges associated with the Thameslink Programme now underway, together with the implementation of the Peterborough and Cambridge Capacity Scheme on the Great Northern Route next May, will create new demands – at a time when our efforts are focused on the provision of much needed new capacity for our customers.’ Tom Joyner, 33, has a wide range of experience within the rail industry. Prior to joining First Great Western, he held a similar role with National Express, leading the Silverlink Metro team to deliver a four per cent improvement in PPM over a two year period. His career spans WAGN, now part of FCC’s Great Northern Route, Silverlink County, the Stansted Express, and National Express London Lines. Mr Joyner was educated at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, London Metropolitan University, and at the Cass Business School in London’s City University – where he gained a Masters in business administration. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Management, and of the Institute of Railway Operators. Keith Harding, who has held the post of operations director for FCC on an interim basis since the summer of 2008, is to take up a new role within the organisation, as head of safety and standards. Keith will continue to report to Elaine Holt, and will remain a member of the Company’s senior leadership team
