South West and TfL confirm industrial action

July 23rd 2012

South West Trains and Transport for London (TfL) have confirmed that they will take industrial action following a long-running dispute over Olympic pay.

TfL staff will take strike action between July 27 -28 after failing to come to an agreement over Olympic reward payments.

Last week, union members at South West Trains voted in favour of action short of a strike and have now been instructed not to work any overtime or rest days between 00.01 on Friday, July 27 and 23.59 on Sunday, August 12.

Members in Oyster Business Support, Lost Property Office, London Transport Museum and the Travel Information Centres are not to book on for any duty starting on or after 7am on Friday, July 27, returning to work for duties starting on or after 7am on Saturday, July 28.

Members in the Travel Information Contact Centres based at Pier Walk and Albany House, which are termed First Contact Telephony for Oyster, Surface, Buses and London Underground are to strike between the following hours: Friday, July 27, 10.00-12.00, Friday, July 27, 21.00-23.00, Saturday, July 28, 01.00-03.00.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “Although we have secured good deals on Olympics recognition and reward for the vast majority of our members we still have a small number of employers holding out and refusing to offer either a fair deal or any kind of deal at all.

“We cannot accept that blatant unfairness and the time has come for these employers to seize the opportunity, get round the table and sign off agreements that recognise the additional work and pressures that these staff will be carrying.”
