Ticket to Ryde
In a move described by South West Trains’ Managing Director Stuart Palmer as ’tremendously exciting" HSBC Rail has sold the Island Line’s six trains to SWT for £1. The 6x2 car class 483 electric units date from 1938 and originally saw service with London Underground. They were transferred to the Isle of Wight, where they run 68 services a day between Ryde Pier and Shanklin. The line became a community rail route in March 2006. The next few months will see all the class 483s repainted in traditional colours, along with some of the stations. The dinosaur livery will become extinct
