Welsh train users get STAR service

March 28th 2006

Arriva Trains Wales users can now get their tickets quicker and easier following a £2m investment in new equipment.

The STAR terminals will be installed at the operator’s 51 booking offices. There will also be 18 new self-service machines, 12 new supervised ticket barriers, and mobile on-train ticket-buying equipment for use by guards.

STAR technology works using the chip and pin system and offers rapid issuing of tickets and access to a number of other customer and operator-friendly services, such as marketing promotions.

Mike Hurley, head of stations, said: “Our customers are telling us that rapid ticket-buying facilities are an important part of their journey. The new systems will also bring real benefits for our teams working at stations and on board trains.”
