High Speed Handover

Carillion has completed a double handover to Union Railways of the track and overhead power systems of Section 2, High Speed One. Carillion, with joint venture partners, Alstom and French firm, Travaux du Sud-Ouest, recently commissioned the new systems from Southfleet junction to the London tunnel portal on Section 2 of High Speed 1.

Carillion has also handed overfurther works on Section 2 which include remodelled track at St Pancras International. This can now accommodate high-speed services alongside the existing Midland Mainline service. The contract involved installation, testing and commissioning of the new track and overhead catenary systems running from the London tunnel portal into St Pancras station platforms.

High Speed One is expected to open on time and on budget on 14 November 2007. Eurostar has already started selling tickets from St Pancras. Journeys between Paris and London will take 2 hours 15 minutes, instead of the 2 hours 35 minutes they take today.
