Job Title - Senior Technical Officer (Steelworks)
Location - Glasgow, George House
Rates - £250 per day
In Scope of IR35 - (i.e. subject to tax & national insurance contributions taken at source by Capita as the primary agency)
About the role / project:
This role is focused on civils related work for the Route Services division of Network Rail where the client currently delivers around 1200 items of work via a framework contract. Largely based in Glasgow, however due to the nature of the work and the geography of the role covering Scotland you will be required to travel, incorporate overnight stays as rostered and also work in various locations and circumstances, including: working at height, in remote areas, confined spaces and areas with complex access.
This area of Network Rail requires an experienced and flexible steelworks fabricator to join the team and take over installation work to be carried out on the railway infrastructure. Acting as the client rep working with and supervising Contractors and Sub-contractors, you should have a basic understanding of contract management and Health & Safety legislation. Safety management is critical to the role so relevant experience and qualifications in this area would be advantageous.
In order to carry out the work effectively you should have an awareness of third party interface such as land owners, neighbours and government bodies and where appropriate, will be expected to identify where liaison is necessary. Examples of this could be working in and around watercourses, over public highways, within SSSI sites etc.
The rail industry is required to comply with legislation which in turn may require you to be available for training and development.
What you will do:
In order to maintain railway operations the majority of the work will be done in unsocial hours including nights and weekends.
You will be expected to deliver a professional approach for work identified of a salient nature and have an ability to plan and arrange the majority of their own diary.
You will be expected to be flexible to meet business demands and available to work during agreed unsocial hours which would be likely two weekends in every four. Agreed rosters will be signed off to facilitate as part of the working week, incorporating midweek rest days and fatigue management.
Your experience will include:
It is essential that the applicant has Civil Engineering experience and be well practiced in the delivery of steelworks for railway civil engineering infrastructure
Must hold valid PTS competency
A current valid driving license is essential
Background in steelwork, fabrication and welding
Welding experience/qualifications
UKAS accredited (highly desirable)
