Project Materials Buyer: 12 mth FTC in Ashby de la Zouch, GB-YOR, United Kingdom

An opportunity exists due to maternity cover within Siemens Rail Automation to recruit an experienced Project Buyer to be located in our York Project office. This role will be responsible for the procurement of Project Materials predominately of railway materials and you will continually seek to improve efficiency through the development of best practice procurement techniques. The Buyer will report to the Head of Project Procurement, North and training will be give but a good background in Materials Buying is needed. 

What are my responsibilities?

  • As the Supply Chain representative in the York office you will help to promote the presence of Supply Chain in the office and be part of a small regional team for all purchasing requirements.
  • Responsible for the day to day ordering and expediting.
  • Responsible for obtaining quotations from suppliers where framework agreements are not in place.
  • To work closely with the regional Material Interface Engineer (MIE)
  • To obtain from the project, planning & bill of materials information.
  • Engagement with key stakeholders is key to the role.
  • Ensure early and continuous integration of the Purchasing function into the project.
  • Ensuring that the client approved materials/parts are delivered within time, to budget, and to specification.
  • Supporting Project Managers to develop and manage project delivery plans.
  • Assist Bids & Tendering department in client bid preparation and with support during client negotiations.
  • Ensure that timely communication of all internal reports is met.
  • Fully participate in all relevant Siemens Supply Chain Management training & process activities.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Previous experience of working in a procurement role, ideally rail or a similar industry/enviroment. 
  • CIPS qualified or in the process of studying would also be an advantage. 
  • SAP or Oracle experience is ideal. 
  • A working knowledge of ERP is needed
  • Good interpersonal, collaboration and persuasion skills.
  • Good numerate and Microsoft IT skills.
  • Commercially minded and able to communicate at all levels.
  • Proactive approach & positive outlook.
  • Delivery focused.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team & under time pressure.
  • Good communication skills written & oral (essential)
