Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Specialists have a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy and growing procurement team with our prestigious client LORAM, based in the heart of Derby. Due to project wins and an increase in workload, we are supporting them in seeking a Senior Buyer, someone who will come in, gel well with a close-knit team and become a key member of this function in relation to procurement activities and responsibilities.
The Opportunity
LORAM have just been awarded a major £multi million contract which will be a huge flagship project for them for the next 3 years, however, further bids and tenders that are currently in process, will make for more wins and therefore further growth in the team, this will be a long-term opportunity for the right person.
This will be a roll up your sleeves type of role, and someone who is used to working in a fast paced "we need it yesterday" environment will be required, someone who isn't averse to stressful and pressurised situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement Early engagement with suppliers to ensure all are fully qualified/approved and to ensure they have signed an MNDA.
- All supplier questionnaires, MNDAs and related certificates should be stored in the central area and the Supplier Qualification Register updated accordingly.
- Responsible for supplier selection considering Cost, Quality, Performance and Compliance.
- Manage all necessary information/deliverables for Bills of Materials, Material requests and Material budgets to support the Business needs and Key Stakeholders.
- Negotiate with suppliers and contractors on best price, mode of shipping and delivery lead-times during the quotation process. Identify any potential supplier capacity constraints.
- Negotiate Savings / Cost Avoidance and maintain the Savings Tracker Order Parts continuingly to maintain inventory levels / MRP.
- Evaluate and develop the performance of the suppliers with supplier visits, face to face meetings, pro-active expediting and regular communications.
- Review of overdue POs and ensure general housekeeping is kept up to date
- Where suppliers are underperforming or have supplied defective goods, raise NCRs.
- Work together with other functions such as QHSE, Engineering, Projects, to ensure key stakeholders are informed and satisfied with Purchasing deliverables.
Candidate requirements
- Recent rail industry experience, preferably within a rolling stock environment.
- 5 years + in a procurement, purchasing role previously.
- Experience of purchasing materials for project-based work would be an advantage.
- CIPS qualification.
- Used to a fast paced, pressurised environment.
