Job Purpose:
The Rail Electrification Design Team are seeking a CAD Technician to join our team.
The post holder will have expertise managing his / her own workload and the CAD data production for major projects, within a multi-disciplinary environment. We are currently working on a wide variety of multi-disciplined AC & DC Electrification design and supply contracts in 2D and 3D across both Autodesk and Bentley platforms working in conjunction with teams across the UK.
The post holder will report directly to the CAD Manager and will support the Design Manager and Design Team as a when required.
Dimensions:
The post holder will assist the Rail Electrification Lead CAD Engineer in ensuring that the business can effectively deliver CAD and BIM to meet client requirements. The role provides technical support at project level in the knowledge, application and development of these areas.
The post holder may on occasion be required to travel across the UK to ensure all our CAD teams receive the highest level of support. This may be extended to working in client offices as and when required.
The post holder will be responsible for producing and amending a variety of electrical engineering design drawings prepared by the Design Team. This will include preparing drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, charts and ordnance survey plans including various elevations in order to support the drawings; existing and new Substation layouts; cable route layouts etc.
The post holder will assist with the preparation of hand back documents for submission to the client, prepare and update As Built drawings with information provided from site and attend site to collate information and confirm accuracy of records.
The post holder, in performing his role, will be required to work closely with the Design Manager, Design Team and all third party designers to ensure an integrated design solution is presented for all projects. This will extend to working and interfacing with Network Rail, our external approved suppliers and or other third parties as appropriate to produce a homogeneous solution.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring adherence at all times to our clients Business Management Systems, Safety working policies, standards, procedures and standard practices as well as those applicable to Network Rail infrastructure in all aspects of the design process as required under the CDM regulations.
The post holder shall be required to have a good understanding of H, S, E and Q legislation and procedures and incorporate them into the design.
The post holder shall provide the highest quality and level of Customer service. At the same time achievement of the delivery timescales and at budgeted cost without compromising the quality of product or service is a critical success factor.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
The post holder will also possess good communication and inter personal skills and be able to effectively communicate and report at all levels. Proven experience within a Contracting or manufacturer industry will also be an advantage.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Support core CAD delivery across design team
* To produce fully compliant suitable drawings to meet the requirements of the contract
* Provide support to the design team that covers cross discipline work streams to provide an integrated solution for the customer
* To ensure sufficient resources are obtained in a timely manner to meet programme commitments
* To positively influence design and construction safety performance and aims for zero accidents
* To ensure that all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations
* Take an active role in the local coaching of junior /less experienced staff to ensure the developmental needs of both the individual and the business are met
Core Requirements:
* Demonstrable experience working in the rail sector for an electrical biased discipline, such as Distribution and or E&P
* Proficiency in the following software packages as a minimum:
o Bentley AECOsim V8i
o Bentley Microstation V8i (2D & 3D)
o Autocad (2D / 3D)
o Point Cloud data
o Navisworks or Bentley Navigator
o Use of Sharepoint
* Demonstrable experience producing drawings for a substation environment
* Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of 3D design tools
* Understanding of the practical application of BIM, 4D and 5D modeling
* Must have experience producing and coordinating the production of 3D CAD data using Bentley AECOsim V8i
* A good practical understanding of BIM is essential
* Knowledge of electrification design processes working within a multiple discipline engineering environment
* Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of Network Rail CAD standard
* Identify, interpret and apply client CAD standards where required
* Apply and follow the internal CAD standard
* Proven safety management knowledge including CDM requirements
* Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
* Proven ability to undertake CAD clash detection
* Energetic and hardworking individual with an ability to motivate others
Additional (Desirable) Requirements:
* Proficiency in the following software packages are desirable:
o Bentley Projectwise
o Bentley Substation
o Bentley Raceway Cable Management
