Position Title Principal CAD Technician

Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Principal CAD/BIM Technician to join our busy and expanding Rail team in our centrally located Swindon office

Within the role you will be responsible for preparing engineering CAD/BIM models using industry standard software and will also be involved with embedding the technical standards and protocols for managing the use of this software. You will also be involved with locally embedding our current use of Bentley ProjectWise as a Common Data Environment.

Along with the above you will lead a team of 6-8 CAD modellers, ensuring that they acquire and maintain the skills necessary to deliver projects in the evolving CAD/BIM environment required by our clients. Also liaising with the local and wider AECOM Business Leadership and BIM Directors to ensure that the team achieves its business performance targets.

We're looking for an individual who is capable of making a significant contribution to the growth of the Rail Team by proactively identifying opportunities for business advantage through the innovative use of CAD/BIM Modelling technology.

Further responsibilities include:

Liaise with the Local Business Line Manager with regards to the development of CAD/BIM modelling throughout the local Rail Stream.

Liaise with the AECOM EMIA Digital Project Delivery Group with regards to the development of CAD/BIM modelling capability of the Rail Team.

Liaise with the Project Managers with regards to project requirements for CAD/BIM.

Working closely with CAD/BIM Leadership to up skill the local Rail team to deliver BIM Level 2 (progressing to Level 3) processes into everyday project production and delivery.

Implement CAD/BIM modelling techniques and processes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the production process.

Implement and maintain the use company CAD/BIM Modelling Standards and protocols throughout the team.

Maintain an overview of developments in IT based CAD/BIM modelling systems and standard Codes of Practice.

Ensure all project data is correctly established and maintained in accordance with company standards and project requirements.

Seek opportunities to work with and collaborate with the Global Delivery Centre team in India.

Monitor resource utilisation and seek opportunities to share staff across the sector and wider business.

Understand commercial constraints and progress on projects.

Maintain an overview of the productivity of CAD/BIM Staff

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role we are looking for individuals with significant experience of working and delivering BIM/CAD projects in a similar role on Rail projects.

You will have gained experience using Bentley MicroStation, AECOsim and Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit and/or Civil3D along with experience with RC and Steelwork detailing.

Previous experience of managing a small team is also essential for this post.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Principal CAD/BIM Manager will have obtained a basic technical qualification (HNC or equivalent).

• Progressing to ICE accreditation to TMICE.
