The Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) - will transform travel across the city, boosting the economy by billions of pounds and supporting thousands of new jobs and homes. The line, currently being constructed by Crossrail, will be named after the UK's longest serving monarch when it becomes operational. Rail for London Infrastructure (RfLI) part of Transport for London (TfL) will be responsible as Landlord / Infrastructure Manager for central section stations, the tunnel environment, shafts, portals and a number of surface stations. In readiness for the phased opening of this prestigious railway, we are seeking to recruit in a highly skilled dynamic maintenance team to take us into operation, and beyond.
Overview of role
An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Maintenance Delivery Technician (PMDT) – Signalling to join the Elizabeth line ensuring the successful delivery and operation of London's newest railway.
Primarily the Principal Maintenance Delivery Technician shall assume the leading role faulting & maintenance teams, providing team leadership and managing safety. In addition, your skills will need to include the mentoring of technicians and Apprentices to enhance the business
You will be expected to work to a shift pattern which shall include unsociable hours and weekend working.
The Elizabeth Line uses CBTC integrating into Network Rail systems.
The Principal Maintenance Delivery Technician is responsible for the delivery of safety of line inspections, asset monitoring, maintenance, like for like renewal and improvements works. This will include asset fault response, infrastructure inspection, asset data management and the safe delivery of reliability centred maintenance tasks.
Initially, the Principal Maintenance Delivery Technician will assist the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery Supervisor (IMDS) and Discipline Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer (DIME) ensuring that the new Elizabeth Line Crossrail railway can be brought into service and be maintained safely, efficiently and effectively delivering defined Elizabeth Line performance requirements.
Upon introduction of the Elizabeth Line into operation, the Principal Tech will assist the IMDS and DIME in their responsibilities for the safety critical deployment and tactical direction of the maintenance teams with technical decision authority and execution of maintenance engineering stewardship plans as part of cross functional teams.
Key Accountabilities
• Delivery and execution of Infrastructure maintenance works, renewals works and supervision of contracted labour services. This includes completion of infrastructure inspections, self assurance checks and quality checks.
• Leading and directing the fault response teams and the delivery of maintenance tasks as defined by the DIME's, complying with defined Rail for London Infrastructure (RFLi) standards, processes, procedures and performance to be delivered. The level of intervention includes leading the defect rectification teams and opening the railway to safe operation following maintenance and renewals works completion.
• Deliver maintenance deployment planning with operations colleagues, ensuring that the operational requirements align with the maintenance engineering asset management requirements and deliver a compliant, safe, operable and maintainable railway.
• To ensure that Rail for London Infrastructure (RFLi) fully address the specification, planning, execution and quality of the maintenance engineering and safety management requirements. This is part of the asset management strategy and plan to deliver the required asset whole life, Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) and Remote Condition monitoring
• Ensure Infrastructure and Asset maintenance standards are met by applying established policies and procedures to ensure safety and functional limits are included in the design and construction phase.
• Deliver continuous improvement through a delivery of change initiatives; specifically using Reliability Based Maintenance as part of the "Predict and Prevent" asset stewardship strategy
Essential Experience and Knowledge to Role:
The Principal Maintenance Delivery Technician – Signalling shall take the technical lead and experience essential in the following (but not limited to):
• Working within an operational control centre environment
• Working with servers & workstations
• Good knowledge of IP based systems & data networks
• Working with electronic interlocking systems
• Skilled at data analysis and interpreting log files
• Working with remote condition monitoring and network management systems
• Specialist knowledge in Railway Signalling and Telecoms systems.
• Specialist knowledge of signalling maintenance methods and associated legislation and standards
• Substantial experience as S&T Technician or Senior Maintenance Technician
• SMTH holder
• SFI L2
• Experienced in maintaining and faulting IBCLs
• Demonstrable application of railway safety-related standards regime and processes
Skills
• Team leader experience with leadership skills to motivate professionals from multiple disciplines
• Excellent communication skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills explicitly with external contractors
• Excellent decision-making and analytical skills
• Established risk management skills.
• Ability to formulate and articulate clear visions for the planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes
