Railway Technician in Derby, East Midlands, United Kingdom
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Rail Technician to work in the Measurement Services Team of our Rail ETS division in Derby.
The Measurement Services Team provides a variety of measurement services for both internal and external customers on railway infrastructure, typical services that we provide include:
- Topographical Surveys
- Track design surveys
- Survey monitoring regimes
- Gauging surveys using a variety of industry standard systems or propriety technology developed by Balfour Beatty Rail
- Track Surveys using a variety of propriety technology developed by Balfour Beatty Rail
The Rail Technicians role is to undertake safety critical roles and manage on track plant whilst on network rail infrastructure and where required other rail infrastructure systems. They will also assist with all surveys undertaken by the measurement services team.
The individual will have knowledge of Network Rail Safety requirements for undertaking all site activities whilst on the railway infrastructure.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertake safety critical roles, such as COSS, ES, MC.
- Manage the use and maintenance of all measurement platforms such as RRV, Electric and manual trolleys.
- Assist with all activities of the measurement team such as: structure gauging and track surveys topographical, gauging and monitoring.
- Working with measurement team to establish client requirements
- Being able to determine the most appropriate Safety methodology and documentation for undertaking work on railway environment
- Assist with the Completion of all survey projects in a conscientious and professional manner
- Assist with the production of survey data and reports to meet project deliverables
- Able and willing to work unsocial hours (night shifts) and weekends where required
The candidates should ideally have the following qualifications and experience:
- Experienced in the safety activities on Network Rail Infrastructure and where possible other railway environments, Includes the supervision of RRV or OTP’s
- Ideally ONC/HND qualified preferably in a railway or civil engineering surveying discipline
- An understanding of a variety of survey equipment to include, total stations, scanners, track geometry trolleys, LaserSweep
- Ideally Competent in Network Rail safety systems such as PPS and On Trac
- Computer literate with experience in the Microsoft Office software environment
The candidate should ideally have the following safety or infrastructure competencies:
- Network Rail PTS competence
- Network Rail COSS competence
- Ideally Network Rail ES and MC competence
- LUL Lucas Card competence
- First aid
Candidate should also hold a current holder of UK driver’s license
