Senior CAD / BIM Technician *Job Summary : Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a Senior CAD/BIM Technician with experience of Civil and Structural working within our Rail Sector. AECOM are currently expanding their CAD & BIM team in our Manchester office following a number successful project wins.
The successful candidate will be experienced in using the industry standard CAD/BIM applications and will have a proven record of delivering to quality, time and budget. They will have experience working as part of project teams developing a range of Rail and Bridge engineering scheme solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation. This will include the modeling of designs in a BIM environment utilizing Autodesk Revit and/or Bentley products. The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. The Successful Candidate will have to opportunity to enhance and develop their Software skills using our Technology partners learning and training courses which are available online to AECOM employees.
OFFICE OVERVIEW
You will be joining our Civil Engineering team within our Rail division based in the AECOM central Manchester office where we work on a wide variety of projects ranging from smaller improvement works to projects of national importance like high speed rail. In the Manchester Rail team we have a number of key disciplines, including Civils, PWay and Geomatics. We are looking for ambitious Technicians who are keen to further develop their careers at one of the world’s leading design consultancies.

Job Responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Job Accountabilities:
- Provide CAD/BIM support and mentoring to less experienced Technicians.
- Take the role of office Product Champion for specific CAD/BIM applications that are of particular interest.
- Supported by the Digital Lead for Rail assist in developing tools, processes and standards to achieve efficient delivery and innovative solutions.
- Assist the Digital Lead for Rail with allocating resources and workload.
- Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s Transportation division.
- Be aware of and understand the IMS procedures, their importance and their application to projects.
- Comply with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and increase own awareness of Health and Safety procedures. Awareness and understanding of AECOM’s core Vision and Values.
- Demonstrate and deliver in support of AECOM’s core Vision and Values.
- Liaise with the office/regional CAD/BIM Lead in respect of resourcing requirements to maintain high levels of team utilisation.
- Maintain an overview of developments in CAD/BIM technologies, relevant BIM standards and Codes of Practice.
Project Accountabilities
- Supported by the Digital Lead for Rail take responsibility for initial project CAD/BIM set-ups including liaising with clients and architects regarding CAD protocols and standards.
- Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients and contractors on CAD and BIM matters as appropriate.
- Liaise and support our global design teams on project CAD and BIM matters as appropriate.
- Be involved with decision making relevant to production of key design deliverables.
- Attend and report at project progress at Project Team meetings if required.
- Maintain CAD/BIM Standards and processes.
- Attend and drive BIM software in design coordination and Design Review Project Team.
- Initiating and continuing to completion any size project either independently or as the team digital CAD/BIM lead responsible for others in larger projects.
- Be conversant with BS1192 relevant standards and guidance associated with delivering in a BIM environment to Level 2.
- Produce all 2D and 3D design information required for any type of structure, using industry standard modelling applications from Bentley or Autodesk.
- Prepare RC and steelwork details as required.
- Maintain CAD/BIM software on the project.
- Responsible for checking of models, details and schedules and quality expectations.
- Manage Project CAD/BIM Technicians on projects.
- Monitor the project programme and have an appreciation of project timescales and costs.
*Minimum Requirements :
- You will have a Experience using Autodesk and/or Bentley products.
- Ability to produce all 2D and 3D design information required for any type of structure.
- Working within a ProjectWise Common Data Environment experience is highly desirable but training can be provided on this.
- AECOsim experience is highly desirable but training can be provided on this.
- Experience with Navisworks or Navigator would be highly desirable but training can be provided on this
- RC detailing experience is preferable.
- You will have excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of undertaking a range of Transportation engineering related projects.
- Understanding and working use of BS1192:2007
- Experience with Bentley ProjectWise would be a plus
- Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
*Preferred Qualifications :
- Educated to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Ideally you’ll be working towards EngTech or equivalent
