Civils Operative
Location: NationwidePurpose of the role
Carry out instructions as directed by the Site Manager/Team Leader to deliver civils work to the agreed quality, agreed timescales and safety.
What will this role involve?
• Attend work for all rostered shifts and overtime turns
• Act upon observed unsafe acts or conditions reporting them to the site management team.
• Carry out tasks given by the Site Supervisor, in a diligent manner, ensuring the work is done in an efficient, cost effective, and professional manner producing work of high quality
• Attend training courses necessary for development of the skills needed to carry out the tasks performed by the work group and learn how to behave safely
• Ensure materials are used economically and unused materials are returned to stores, arrange for all scrap materials to be removed from site in a safe manner at the end of each job
• Ensure all plant / tool inspections and pre use checks are carried out before use with all defects documented and reported through the correct channels.
• Undertake all duties as skilled, in a reliable, flexible constructive manner. Assisting the team as required
• Maintain a good relationship with all customers who they come into contact with, behaving in a professional manner at all times
Specific Safety Responsibilities:
• Work in a professional and proactive manner encouraging the development of the safety culture with all site personnel.
• Ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported
• Responsible for complying with the alcohol and drugs policy
• Responsible for wearing and maintaining in good condition any Personal Protective Equipment provided to them for their protection, and bringing to their supervisor’s attention any defects or shortcomings with the equipment
• Responsible for ensuring their own safety and the safety of the working party
• Responsible for bringing any unsafe working activities or hazards to the immediate attention of their respective supervisor.
• Responsible for only carrying out tasks, activities and operating plant and equipment that they are certified or competent to carry out.
• Ensure the working party attend Safety Briefings, Work Box Talks and Pre Work Briefings.

Qualifications
• HSEA qualifications (Safety Passport etc)
• NVQ Level 2 / 3 in given Trade
• City & Guilds in given Trade
Core Training
• First Aid (minimum 1 day)
• Manual Handling
• Asbestos Awareness
• Confined Space Training
• Banksman
• Slinger / Signaller
Experience
• Of working in the Transmission / Distribution Sector
Client Authorisations
National Grid Contracts
• Minimum NG Person
• BESC Basic Electrical Safety Certificate
• Impressed Voltage Awareness
• Desirable NG Competent Person
• Desirable NSI 6 & 8
If applying for work in the DNO Sector (SPEN, SSE, WPD, NPG etc)
• Access Egress Movement within a Sub-station
• Permit Holder
• Duty Key Holder
