Graduate Civil Engineer in Ruislip, Middlesex, United Kingdom
Description
The graduate engineer will be required to work on rail and /or construction projects which may involve night time and weekend working.
The graduate engineer programme is expected to last three years.
The graduate will be provided with various placements / work shadowing around the VGC Group business to ensure exposure to various areas of projects. This will include site operations, commercial, estimating and HSQE.
Projects will predominantly be based in the South East of England.
Post responsibilities
Day to day management of site activities
Setting out and monitoring of work to ensure that it is constructed in accordance with specified tolerances
Interpretation of drawings and specifications
Preparation of method statements
Ensuring that work is undertaken in accordance with approved methodology
Preparation of inspection and test plans
Checking that work is delivered to meet the applicable specification and standards
Materials take-off and ordering
Material reconciliations
Contributing to the overall safety management on site
Site environmental management
Preparation of daily, weekly and other plans
Preparation of periodic progress reports
Awareness and delivery of contract in accordance with contractual conditions
Attend internal and client held meetings as required by the project
Post-specific skills, experience qualifications, person specification Essential qualifications and knowledge:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
Graduate membership of Institution of Civil Engineers
PTS/LU qualifications (arranged by VGC as required)

SMSTS - site managers safety training scheme (arranged by VGC as required)
Some work will require satisfactory CRB clearance
Pass drugs and alcohol screening
Full and clean driving licence

Training and development
Mentoring will be provided by a designated appropriate person within the VGC Group.
Work shadowing will be provided within various departments.
Work placements to be organised with site operations and the commercial and estimating departments.
Where necessary the graduate engineer may be seconded to external companies to gain relevant experience (eg design)
Training to be arranged to meet individual and project requirements. This may include SMSTS, CSCS, PTS, LU access, commercial awareness, leadership and management, safety and environmental training. Training will be provided by both internal and external training resources.
Graduates will be expected to maintain membership of their local ICE branch and attend CPD events.
