Samuel Knight International’s Rail engineering recruitment team are pleased to be recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our national design consultancy client. We’re looking for a new family member and someone who wants to be part of an excellent team culture. Across all offices are regular social get togethers of the entire UK Rail design engineering team, dedicated office location socials & regular team building events in the office.

You'll be joining with an expectation of taking on design assurance, management, mentoring & on occassion contractors responsible engineer (CRE) responsibilities. In the post you will be working on a range of CP6 projects held by an expanding portfolio of clients. It is also likely our client will have a large volume of work on HS2 if the project commences per the UK government review.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Overseeing the design output of a team of engineering colleagues.
• Provide assurnace, guidance, mentoring and management of the design output.
• Take responsibility for representing the company to client organisations.
• Act as the Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) where necessary and take the opportunity to act as Contractors Engineering Manager.
• Involved in the career devcelopment plans of team members
• Creating & nurturing relationships with senior internal stakeholders and external clients.

A principal within the team, there are a few key skills and experiences that our client are seeking from their new family member. Below are some examples of what we’re looking for, these are not exhaustive and experiences not listed will also be considered:

Skills and Knowledge

• Essential; Experience working in the UK rail industry, with expert level understanding of Network Rail approval ,control standards & GRIP standards.
• Desireable: Engineering Chartership or "working towards" .
• Lineside Civils, Station refurbishment, Platform extension, earthworks, bridges & structures.
• Very advantageous; Previous CRE sign off for comparable civil Rail design project
• Great management, development and communication skills
• Comfortable working as part of a full project team that includes designers, engineers, technicians and planners
• Commercial acumen
• Career aspirations

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree & ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership.
• Experienced as existing principal engineer or having assumed the responsibilities of principal engineer on recent relevant project.
• At least 3 years experience in the Rail industry, ideally longer, if less than 5 years Rail experience we would like extensive Civil engineering experience of which some interacted with Rail works (enabling works etc.)
