Samuel Knight Rail are pleased to be recruiting for a prestigious client operating across all of the UK infrastructure sector. They are a company of design engineers , planners and technical engineering experts.

In this instance we are seeking a senior civil engineer to join the teams growing Rail infrastructure design team.

The successful candidate would cover a varied selection of high profile national projects in the UK & across the world. Part of a team of over 70 , and a business unit with around 800 colleagues, you will have all the support you would expect from a blue chip organisation making a real difference. Clients will include Network Rail, HS2, London Underground and Principal Contractors working on frameworks across the country. Other clients will include TOC’s and local authorities.

As a senior hire you will undertake management responsibilities while working closely with other leadership colleagues including CRE’s, team leaders and project management.

The successful candidate will undertake the following typical daily responsibilities:

• Technical civil engineering design expertise – providing input to Rail projects.
• Take on Design Management duties with regards projects, interfaces and staff.
• Handle third parties and client contacts – developing strong and efficient relationships.
• Production of detailed railway designs and calculations, including the checking and approval of such by engineers on your team.
• You will undertake feasibility works, concept engineering and design operations

The position will offer the chance to take on mentoring and skill development of junior engineers, and team lead opportunities within the Rail Civils team. Additionally, you will be offered personal development and the opportunity to gain further design skills, particularly in the area of design management.

A successful candidate will hold the following attributes:

• Experience in a design engineering capacity on UK Rail infrastructure
• Outstanding knowledge of railway, structural and civil engineering
• Demonstrating experience in production of & quality assurance of detailed design on the railway
• Experience in the use of design software packages
• Able to work as part of a team, supportive of other Rail teams and showing a flexibility in working to client needs.

Necessary qualifications:

• Civil Engineering Degree – Essential.
• Masters, Diploma etc – Advantageous.
• Member of Institution of Civil Engineers & Chartered Engineer – Advantageous.

Additional knowledge:

• Proven project and design management within heavy, light and metro rail.
• Network Rail CRE Sign off – or in a position to progress into this role.
• Support in new business cases – tenders, bidding, business development etc.
