Senior Estimator - Civil Engineering - Bristol or South Wales

Working with a highly respected civil engineering contractor, I am currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Estimator to join their ambitious team on a permanent basis. Based in the South Wales or Bristol and reporting to the Estimating Director, the successful candidate will have responsibility for successfully winning work in the South Wales and South West regions within infrastructure, groundworks, RC works. earthworks, remediation and drainage.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain relationships with existing clients and customers to ensure repeat business
• Forge new business relationships for the company and secure new work streams
• Build a strong network of suppliers and sub-contractors
• Oversee the whole tender process from enquiry through to tender submission, tender negotiation and securing of project/contracts
• Oversee the preparation of take-offs and compilation of Bills of Quantities / Work Schedules for certain drawing & specification tender enquiries
• Develop rates from basic principles and present in a split format for informed review with Directors
• Oversee the sub-contract enquiry process and compare and interrogate subcontract quotations
• Attend pre-award / pre-contract meetings and negotiate tender conclusions

The Candidate:

• Substantial years' experience in civil engineering estimating, the latter of which must have been spent in a leading or senior civil engineering estimating capacity
• Highly motivated, driven and ambitious with ability to work autonomously but as part of a team
• Ability to undertake several estimates simultaneously and complete to strict deadlines.
• Able to price competitively working from 'first principles' and appreciation construction logistics, sequences and outputs
• Experienced in pricing tenders for Local Authorities and Private clients
• Appreciation of value engineering opportunities and confidence to offer alternative solutions to clients.
• Able to contribute to 'Quality' aspect of tenders
• Analysis of tender documentation, interaction with Consultant Engineers, Architects and Clients and with good technical knowledge and able to fully understand technical specifications
• Excellent knowledge of various forms of Construction Measurement (CESMM / HWSMM) and various forms of Construction Contracts (NEC/JCT/ICE)
• Good interpersonal skills to provide the client with a first-class customer service
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Excel
