The East West Rail Alliance is a "pure" alliance consisting of three Non-Owner Participants (NOPs); VolkerRail, Atkins Global, Laing O'Rourke and the Owner Participant (OP), Network Rail.
East West Rail (EWR) phase 2 is a £1 billion programme and one of the most prestigious projects in the UK Infrastructure pipeline. It will provide a strategic route linking key centres of economic activity between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and Bedford.
The Role
This is a Year in Industry opportunity for 2 individuals either working towards their technical qualifications or recently graduated looking for a role to progress their career.
The position will start in July 2021 until August 2022.
Key Accountabilities
Reporting to the Senior Planner, this position will provide planning support for the scheme and assist in the execution of daily and weekly planning and project controls tasks. This role will have a high degree of learning as the individual hones their planning and interpersonal skills.
Main responsibilities include:
- Assist in producing detailed schedules itemising key constraints
- Assist in Integrating and support the material management procedures
- Assist in report production
- Learn planning
- Record site progress and issues
- Mark up charts, drawings as necessary to communicate the progress position
- Communicate progress and issues to the site team and project leadership
- Communicate with internal departments to give and receive information
- Produce detailed realistic programmes with assistance from project planner and site team with aim of producing unaided
- Liaise with site team to check on progress achieved and issues impacting upon planned production
- Monitor production and collate as built information
- Learn the use of 4D planning techniques to communicate sub project progress and delivery intent in visual formats through integration of the programme and 3d model and phasing drawings
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following experience/skill set:
Expected:
- Working towards degree in Engineering, other construction related degree (Construction Management), or an industry recognised technical qualification (e.g. HNC, HND, NVQ level 4)
- Aware of Project Management Systems and techniques
- Able to operate Microsoft Office Suite to present and analyse data
- Aware of the types of construction contracts and the elements therein, including different types of construction methods and processes
- Aware of the principles of design, procurement, manufacture and assembly processes including the systems and control measures required
