COMMERCIAL MANAGER (RAIL) in London, London, United Kingdom
We are looking for a passionate, commercially aware Commercial Engineer with sound technical knowledge to be an integral part of our Rail team that is highly motivated and with a desire to tackle interesting problems with the opportunity of finding innovative solutions.
Ensuring the successful delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across our UK portfolio, you will be responsible for, and typical activities will include:
- Determining commercial and contract requirements from our client brief and be able to make sound decisions and propose the right solution.
- Providing high quality commercial skills and technical knowledge of contracts and managing multidisciplinary design fee, within an environment of high quality and timeliness.
- Ensuring excellence in the support of the commercial elements of multidisciplinary rail design tenders, contracts and project delivery.
- Collaborative engagement and management of our supply chain, contract management and governance.
- Sharing knowledge, best practice and innovation across our business, providing guidance, training and feedback with other related disciplines and skills, locally and across the UK.
- You will have the freedom to work independently, responsible for your own project portfolio and supported in the management of your own personal development utilising our in house and external training opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Experience in proactively managing the commercial aspects of multidisciplinary rail design projects, including change control, invoicing, credit control and project forecasting and reporting processes.
- Competent in change control, forecasting and Earned Value reporting.
- Competent in the tracking and understanding of project design costs, evaluation and invoicing for Lump Sum, Time Basis and Target Cost contracts.
Relationships
Reporting to our Commercial Manager you will work with Project Teams of Railway and Infrastructure Engineers at bid and project stage. You will also develop relationships with our companies wider commercial community and our client's management and commercial teams.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Experience in preparing the financial / commercial elements of tender submissions.
- Knowledge of industry standard forms of contract and conditions of engagement for design services and sub-consultants for Rail projects.
- Understanding and application of risk assessment processes and the management of contingency.
Qualifications
- Appropriate degree, HND or higher qualification
- Ideally, a member of the RICS / APM
