Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting for a Commercial Manager that will manage all commercial aspects of various rail projects along with identifying risk to our client and our client's customers and the provide management information to influence decision making.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for someone to join a rail consultancy in the Midlands who have a real passion in helping their client's railway development projects and who provide a realistic approach to the way projects are delivered from the outset. Our client assist developers, TOC's and Government Bodies create and mould visionary strategies, manage and achieve project delivery goals and develop rail schemes.
The main purpose of the role is to act as the main responsibility for delivering bids, tenders and proposals to win more work for our client and to streamline their process when pitching for opportunities with current and prospective clients. The type of projects vary from early GRIP stage work (feasibility and design) all the way through to delivery and construction so have a real cradle to grave involvement in interesting rail projects.

Role and Responsibilities
- Managing the commercial activities and their inter relation on major work-streams, projects and programmes to deliver commercial control which can include the generation and management of project budgets for clients, often in support of third party funding applications.
- Contract management of rail projects from initial enquiry to contract completion - including design (feasibility and outline) and construction (generally design & build).
- Production of management information associated with contract delivery relating to their commercial and contractual aspects.Ensuring the commercial and contractual monitoring, issuing of contractual notices in a timely manner and control of contractors, suppliers and third parties such as Network Rail.
- Close liaison with operations and maintenance teams to ensure service delivery exceeds contract thresholds.
- Reviewing project commercial and time/programme implications of submissions ranging from early warning notices, compensation events / variations and claims and provision of advice as to liability and assessment of value.
- Processing of supplier payments including advising clients on certification.Review and progressing of variation proposals to agreement.
- Negotiation and settlement of final accounts.Taking the commercial lead in tendering activities.
- This includes ensuring the tender documents are complete and there is no conflict in the documentation.
- Create and maintain project capital and non-capital spending plan.
Essentials
- Educated to Degree level in a QS or Engineering discipline.
- Track record of assisting successful commercial operations in a commercial or contracting environment.
- Procurement experience including strategy developments.
- Strong commercial management experience.
- Budget and performance management experience.
- Develop, build and maintain effective working relationships with project team.
