Commercial Manager in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Our client is looking to recruit a Commercial Manager, to be based in Doncaster. The remit will be to generate revenue and maximise profit by implementing and managing a professional quantity surveying service in support of all pre-contract, contract and post-contract activities. You will provide day to day management and be responsible for the resource allocation for staff within your control. The ideal candidate will also be capable of planning for and reacting to changing circumstances, balancing priorities and will have a working knowledge of planning/programming software and techniques.
The role will require you to:
• Gather information, analyse it and react accordingly, have a detailed understanding of business process and be capable of providing business and project forecasts.
• Develop quantity surveying practice and procedure to ensure the achievement of targets and goals, while ensuring a high level of customer support.
• Develop and manage commercial strategy and quantity surveying within internal quality control procedures, appropriate industry standards and contractual requirements.
• Develop, implement and manage relevant commercial procedures compatible with business interests.
• Develop, implement and manage tendering and estimating practice and procedure in line with corporate procedures.
• Develop, manage and advise on all aspects of contractual claims and similar quasi-legal issues.
• Develop, implement and manage all aspects of financial performance monitoring and reporting.
• Ensure that project and overall business budgets are not exceeded and advise senior management on business targets.
• Facilitate quantity surveying assistance to the projects being undertaken via the Project Managers and all other staff to ensure completion of their duties as required - this may require you to be actively involved in the surveying duties associated with the project if required.
• Manage quantity surveying staff and contractors in the undertaking of their roles, undertaking personal development plans and any audits that may be required.
• Develop customer relationships to ensure retention of workload now and in the future.
• Advise on surveying resource requirements and staff/contractor training requirements.
• Manage remote (site) staff and ensure communication between the sites and head office.
• Ensure knowledge of relevant contemporary and future items is kept current.
• Manage resources within budget and carry out cost reconciliation.
• Manage all aspects of subcontract/supplier commercial strategy.
• Manage the achievement of project profitability, maximise cash collection and provide cash flow forecasts, both in and out.
• Manage the provision of reports, commercial information and advice to Project Managers and other staff.
• Manage the preparation of tenders and estimates.
• Integrate quantity surveying systems and procedures with those of Finance and other relevant departments with regard to financial performance, monitoring and reporting, and assist Finance to optimise integration of these systems.
• Assist in the business development and customer relationship activities.
• Contribute to business planning and senior management of the business overall.
• Manage and report on all matters affecting safety, customer relationships and contractual issues.
You must be an experienced Quantity Surveyor, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience gained in the construction industry and will be a member of a relevant professional institution.
You may have a BSc or other equivalent qualification, have experience in railway construction, preferably permanent way, and hold a Personal Track Safety certificate.
