Commercial Services Manager

£42,500 - £47,600 pa plus excellent benefits package

Based in Milton Keynes

You will need:

  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent in related subject.
  • Seasoned professional in a range of relevant roles.
  • Proven experience of commercial management.
  • Experience of the construction/railway industry.
  • Excellent understanding of railway forms of contract.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Some experience of agreement negotiation and/or policy application.
  • Demonstration of an eye for detail and completer/finisher approach.
  • Excellent Word skills and experience of manipulating Excel information.

Desirable

  • Significant experience of working within a generalist commercial environment.
  • Proven success in managing stakeholders.
  • Experience of policy development.
  • Experience of working with both upstream (Funder) and downstream (Procurement) processes.
  • A working knowledge of the Third Party Investment Framework.

The Role:

To provide commercial services in support of the Corporate Commercial Team and its customers and oversee policy application in capturing value and managing commercial risks, where our client is making and delivering commitments related to capital projects and service provision.

  • Provide timely commercial expertise and advice, review and assurance of third party template and standard agreements to optimise the balance of value with the management of commercial risks, providing or securing Delegated Authority on these commitments.
  • Plan and deliver commercial development projects to unlock new/more commercial opportunities, improve the management of commitment risks and/or provide commercial capability to make our client more attractive for third party investment.
  • Undertake Commercial Assurance Gateways and Governance Panels including commercial review of papers, writing panel minutes to document outcomes, and drafting briefing notes and Excom papers to support authority requests from the Director, Corporate Commercial or Chief Financial Officer.
  • Lead the Route Sponsorship teams in the timely production of ORR reports both on template agreements and on the use risk funds including co-ordination of accurate inputs from across the business to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Lead commercial analysis to inform decision making and recommend improvement actions. This will include risk funds analysis and recommendations on their sufficiency, leading appropriate action and escalation to highlight and address shortfalls to manage associated financial risk. Also undertake work bank analysis and continuous improvement recommendations to inform team strategies.
