Our client is looking for a Construction Manager – MEP to join their team at an exciting time within a major rail infrastructure firm based in London.
Purpose of the Job
- To support the client in managing the contractor’s performance with regards to health and safety; progress; and cost at the contract level.
- To provide construction management of the Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health (MEP) and communications works within the area of responsibility, using authority delegated by the Project Manager and with the support of the site team.
Principal Accountabilities
- Managing contractor and subcontractor interfaces on site and coordinating across the project with other construction staff.
- Keeping the Project Manager informed of contract and site progress and performance.
- Communicating with and instructing contractors in accordance with the Works Information on behalf of the Project Manager, through specialist contract administrators, using the project administration software.
- Maintaining contract performance against project milestones, KPIs, programme, budget and other established metrics including the development of these tools.
- Managing the contract through all remaining stages including production, start-up, commissioning, snagging and handover.
- Providing constructability input to design.
- Supporting the contractors with continually improving their focus on health and safety by applying a zero-accident philosophy.
- Co-operate with the client in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times
- Monitoring the Work Programme and notifying the client and external organisations of activities and interventions.
- Assisting the Supervisor’s Representative (SR) in ensuring contractor compliance with the project quality plan and requirements.
- Assisting the SR in the management of NCRs and defect / snag items at contract level.
- Discharging duties under the CDM Regulations 2007, complying with the CRL management arrangements for CDM, within their area of responsibility.
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the client Target Zero principles.
- Cooperate with the client in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times.
- Act as a role model for the client’s vision and values, behaving in ways that are in alignment with the client’s Ways of Working. Encourage and support others to do so too.
- Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues.
- Take necessary care to properly protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information from unauthorised disclosure, modification or destruction. Never knowingly put the client’s information or information systems at risk.
Main challenges of the job
- Embedding and maintaining the required behaviours through the supply chain.
- Worksite planning and management of multiple interfaces and contractors.
- Highly complex environment – multiple operational railways and interfaces.
- Construction, test and commissioning of the works to meet completion dates.
- Managing contract interfaces on site and coordination across the project with other construction staff.
- Coordination of third parties including London Underground and London Overground contractors.
- Keeping the Project Manager informed of contract and site progress and performance.
Person Specification
- Engineering qualification, preferably mechanical / electrical engineering degree, or equivalent experience
- Experience of managing the construction of significant value packages of work on a major infrastructure project.
- Experience of managing the installation and commissioning of significant mechanical, electrical and communications works.
- Experience with commissioning processes and certification paperwork.
- Experience with construction within a London Underground environment such as QUENSH and related assurance processes (Authority to Use)
- Knowledge and experience of construction quality systems and processes.
- Knowledge of project controls processes.
- Knowledge and experience of site-based ES&H processes and procedures.
- Experience supervising and administering subcontractors.
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
- Construction regulatory standards (CDM) experience and relevant experience in Construction Planning & Scheduling.
