Contracts Manager in Glasgow, United Kingdom

Role: Contracts Manager
Salary: Negotiable
Location: Glasgow
Sector: Nuclear/Defence
Type: Permanent

I am looking to place a (Senior) Contracts Manager within an international consultancys Glasgow office, with primary responsibility being management of upgrades to buildings, infrastructure and services for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on the new generation of Dreadnought submarines. The total programme budget is set at £1.3 billion and this is a long-term project and role, with the first submarine not set to enter service until 2028. In order to meet that target, there are considerable buildings, infrastructure and service upgrades required in order to ensure a smooth transition to the new class of submarines.

There are a wide range of projects to be completed, with multiple support structures, rescue facilities, training facilities, accommodation facilities as well as utility upgrades, technology infrastructure upgrades and transportation links. You will be responsible for a range of pre- and post-contract activities covering production, development and management/appraisal of procurement strategies, Invitation to Tender (ITT) Evaluation Plans (you will chair the Tender Evaluation Board), Contract Management Plans, Early Warning management, and more.

You will work with a wide range of professionals from your own team, as well as alongside MOD staff and a wide range of Contractors representatives to ensure the next decade of Civil, Structural and Infrastructure upgrades are completed to time, budget and with minimal risk/safety incidents.

Ideally, you will have extensive experience delivering capital programmes within the nuclear or defence sector, or other large-scale infrastructure/construction projects. You will also likely hold membership with a relevant professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) or similar, alongside relevant education, likely from a Commercial Management background, Quantity Surveying or Law.

Note: Due to the nature of work, all candidates will need to undertake a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Pre-Employment check, Identity check and Criminal Record check.

Role Requirements:
  • Relevant experience managing large-scale procurement contracts in a matrix environment
  • Relevant experience managing contracts within construction, infrastructure
  • Relevant education in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Law
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Ability to produce/evaluate ITT + Contract Management Plans
