We are a growing Infrastructure contractor with a in house design consultancy looking to add expertise to the engineering team.

The CRE shall perform a variety of functions in scoping & producing designs in addition to assisting with construction on site as required. We are looking for someone who can manage sub-contract designers, deal with some internal self-delivery of low complexity survey and design work (mainly consisting of cable containment for electrical projects), deal with some internal CAD resource to oversee the completion of as built drawings.

The opportunity is to come on board early in the re-building of a design capability. Types of projects covered will be the provision of modular buildings for compounds and depots and associated civil(s), cable route design, some low complexity railway civil(s) design like signalling related civil(s) location case bases, retaining walls, platform extensions, signal bases. We also have a buildings framework to deliver over the coming years which will involve things like pedestrian footbridges, platform canopy up-grades and replacements, some building refurbishments etc.…

Design

1. Production of 2D/3D designs and associated deliverables
2. Preparing construction drawings associated with the designs
3. Verify & control status of consultants and subcontractors drawings and specifications & maintain registers
4. Attendance of construction review meetings to accommodate construction input into the design process
5. Attendance at IDC/IDR meetings
6. Undertaking the role of CRE (Civils) Design where required
7. Ensure the team is fully aware of any impact on cost, quality and timely delivery of the design teams work
8. Management of sub contract design and designers where necessary
9. Create and manage a design library and tap into existing libraries
10. Budgetary management of tender design fees and preparation of detailed design fee estimates
11. Liaison with Clients, approval bodies and other relevant third parties
12. Overseeing where applicable the BIM process and liaising with our BIM Information managers
13. Prepare reports and present at monthly Bid and Contract reviews the progress of the Design and relationships on their project
14. Assisting the CEM with the assurance of designs

Key requirements;

• Degree qualified Civil Engineer
• Experience of rail civils and electrical designs
• Ability to lead engineering management change and manage design functions/capabilities
• Experience of working in a contractor environment managing subcontract design teams
• CRE signed off by Network Rail - under mentorship or ready to move into this role
• Have the interest and ability to undertake low complexity designs themselves
• Have the right attitude to build and lead an in-house and external design team.
