Our rail team are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, imaginative and committed person to join our growing, world-class rail business as a track team lead. The role is varied and will involve:
Lead track design in Birmingham to secure and deliver track work associated with HS2 and other projects in the Midlands area.
Commercial and financial responsibility for the delivery of track design projects on time and to budget.

You will have responsibility for the successful commercial and financial management of projects throughout their lifecycle. You will be responsible for management of overheads, staff utilisation, monthly management reporting, business development activities and a broad range of related general management activities relating to a team of professional engineers.
Added to this, you are also responsible for managing engineers and technical specialists including sub consultants. This covers recruitment, staff development and performance management, performance development reviews, competence management, training, communications and staff welfare.

With support from the other team leaders and technical directors, you will develop and maintain professional excellence across the service sectors, including the development and application of innovative technical solutions.

Business development will be a key part of your role - to coordinate the preparation of bids, develop solid relationships with key clients, and proactively promote our services through internal and external networking opportunities such as relevant seminars, conferences and other events.

Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:

Chartered or equivalent, with an appropriate degree (e.g. BEng in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering) and a member of a relevant institution (e.g. PWI, IET, IMECHE, IEHF or INCOSE).
Demonstrable project and commercial management of projects.
Extensive experience working for an engineering consultancy within the rail sector

Essential competencies / skills:
Substantial experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams, and being able to demonstrate the following:

Experience in all aspects of track design on Network Rail, from GRIP1 through to GRIP 5-8.
Detailed knowledge and experience of Network Rail design approval process at CRE level.
Technical design experience to carry out supervision and project management of staff.
Capable of producing and checking a wide variety of track design details.
Have an understanding of system engineering concepts and safety management.
Be familiar with construction and installation methods.
Be proficient in project planning and costing.
Able to write and check reports and specifications.
Good communication and people skills.
Be willing to travel to other UK offices and overseas when required.
Proven track record in winning and undertaking fee-earning work.
Have a good track record of ensuring programme performance including commercial, financial and technical delivery.
Proven business development skills, including the building of solid client relationships
Be able to demonstrate a record of successfully managing the performance of teams and the development of staff in their careers.
Excellent and effective written and oral communications skills and an ability to relate to others at all levels
Leadership skills.
Be decisive, tolerant of ambiguity with high energy levels.

Desirable Competencies / Skills
High speed rail experience would be an advantage.
