Design Manager

To manage in-house design organisation. Focusing on programme, project controls and commercial issues.

Accountabilities;

• Comprehensive resource planning to enable effective programming of work and accurate recruitment initiatives.
• Full engagement with all internal customers such that the needs and expectations are managed appropriately.
• Inputting into large multidisciplinary tenders, both pricing of design elements (inputs by others) and into written technical submissions.
• Auditing of design process across the disciplines.
• Oversee and approve all documentation, ensuring that the documentation is professional in its appearance and free from non-technical errors.
• Manage procedures and templates associated with design,
• Manage commercial interfaces in conjunction with the QS appointed to the project.
• Review accuracy of designers risk assessments.
• Providing weekly reports outlining work plans, forecasts and key achievements.
• Recording and tracking documents via the centralised document control system and monitoring adherence to a quality assurance at all times.
• Maintaining full understanding of commercial aspects of the project and ensuring appropriate cost control measures.

Understand all HR functions associated with being a line manager of the Principal Design Engineers

Essential

• Engineering experienced in the design and detail of Infrastructure solutions in a railway environment.
• An ability to work as part of an integrated design team and undertake instructions from the Design Office Manager.
• Articulate with excellent communication skills: able to explain reasoning to a wider audience and adjust approach where needed to take a wider perspective.
• Safety critical position (PTS) - good, practical health and safety awareness.
• Demonstratable commitment to programme management.
• Good attention to detail with a professional outlook.
