Engineering Design Manager – Essex – c£65,000
My client is looking to acquire an experienced Engineering Manager who would be responsible for the management and leadership of the engineering team to support the design and development new and heritage engines.
Experience Required:
Essential-
- Management of an Engineering team (5 Years minimum)
- Sector experience ideally in Rail, Marine, Naval, Oil & gas or power industries.
- Project Management & Resource planning. (MS Project)
- Experienced in best practice NPD/NPI methodology.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline.
- Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA).
- Root Cause Analysis (8D methodology)
- Computer Aided Design (2D, 3D CAD/CAE).
Essential Engine Knowledge-
- Base engine analysis and calibration.
- Engine emissions control & regulations.
- Electronic Fuel Injection.
- Exhaust after treatment calibration (SCR).
- Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data.
- Legislative & FAT test experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering-
- Ensure robust & documented engineering processes are in place that uses best practices & tools available for Design & Development of products. Examples: Phase/Gate Process, 8D, FMECA, DFM, DFA.
- Manage product changes & communicate to other functions through the “DA – Design Alteration” process.
- Ensure engineering drawings and specifications are up-to-date and have the required level of details for manufacturing.
- To ensure design reviews are conducted, documented and maintained for the engine range.
- To produce & document Engineering Calculations to verify the selection of components.
- Plan and conduct verification & validation testing of prototype products to confirm compliance against the required specifications.
- Ensure that development test results are compiled in the form of Engineering Reports in a timely manner.
- Support continuous improvement in engine quality and reliability.
- Provide technical support to the Sales team with data for tenders and quotations for new business.
- Monitor & maintain Product Classification & Approvals for the Product Range to ensure compliance always.
Management-
- To lead, manage, motivate and develop the Engineering team’s skills and capabilities.
- Manage engineering projects within the Company process and procedures to meet cost, quality, standards and timescale.
- Develop & maintain MS Project plans in conjunction with Project Management functions for contract engineering projects and report back to technical director.
- Facilitate weekly team meetings for all members of Engineering to assure excellent communication of objectives & priorities.
- Perform other management duties as deemed necessary by the Technical Director.
