Mechanical Fitter
Mechanical Fitters are required to work on a long term contract until October 2019, with Alstom Transport at their new Rail Technology Centre in Widnes. This is an excellent opportunity to gain rail experience, whilst adding to your skills.
50 % of this role is Mechanical work, 50 % is train preparation for painting work, which includes sanding down and some brush work.

No previous rail experience is required for this role. The ability to be able to follow processes, work from instructions and previous experience and the ability to use a torque wrench is however essential.
Hours
90 hours per every 2 weeks. This will average as 45 hours per week. The hours will be working a mixture of day and night shifts and includes working weekends. The hours for days are 07:30 - 17:00 and nights are 19:30 - 05:00.
Pay
The rate of pay for all hours is £14.29 per hour through a limited company.
Location
Preferably applicants will live in Merseyside or a commutable distance to Widnes.

Duties:
- Work as directed by and in co-operation with the Operations Manager.
- Operate as a member of a work team, as the role of that work team requires
- Undertake shunting activities to assist in movement of rail vehicles (as part of a rail movement's team).
- Participate in Company Initiatives, in particular to be engaged in Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) activity
- Submit problem sheets (including evaluation sheets) with issues that are encountered on work being undertaken
- Carry out component exchange in line with safety critical competency management system
- Maintain good housekeeping within the working area
- Use IT systems that are work related
- Comply with Procedures and Code of Ethics
- To comply with all depot protection procedures
- Understand and abide to safety notices, rules and regulations and follow safe working practices, H&SAW and COSHH
- Be capable of accepting training in other skills and carry out duties e.g. forklift and operational duties which could include movement of rail vehicles.
- Provide on the job training to less experienced colleagues as requested
- Carry out final work and process inspections as required
Qualifications Required:
Time served apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with associated technical qualifications (City & Guilds, SVQ, NVQ Level 2) or recognised equivalent.
Experience Required:
- Background in mechanical engineering
- Multi disciplined in Mechanical and one of the following Electrical, Hydraulic & Pneumatics desirable.
- Able to act as a member of a multi-disciplined team (flexibility around team roles)
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to work on own initiative where required
- Good judgement and decision-making capability
