Principal Telecoms Design Engineer - Rail
Location: Birmingham
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in our well-established railway design consultancy based in Birmingham city centre. The position is based within our Rail Telecommunications Engineering Centre of Excellence.
Our telecommunications design teams undertake design development, outline and detailed designs for various railway schemes incorporating; infrastructure enhancements, station platform alterations and station construction/refurbishments. The successful candidate will be required to lead the design of all of these elements, whilst combining design support from within the Centre of Excellence.
Position Responsibilities:
- Telecommunication design - feasibility, outline/concept design for approval and detailed design for construction
- Contractor's Responsible Engineer
- Liaison with internal design teams and Clients
To be successful in this role we are looking for Candidates with skills and experience in the following areas;
- Contractor's Responsible Engineer in accordance with Network Rail Standard NR/L2/INI/02009
- Working knowledge of CDM and Safety in Design
- Surveying in a railway environment
- CAD (Microstation/AutoCAD/Visio)
- Station Information and Surveillance Systems (SISS) including; CCTV, Public Address, Customer Information Systems, Passenger Help Points and Station WiFi
- Railway Operational Telecommunications infrastructure including: Signallers Telephone Concentrator Equipment, Optical Fibre and Copper Cabling, SCADA, GSM-R, FTN and FTNx
- Railway Depot Communication Systems
- London Underground (LUL) Communication Systems
- Knowledge of installation, maintenance or condition assessments of equipment on Network Rail or LUL infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
Ideally degree educated in a relevant field.
