Mane are recruiting for a Signalling Design Manager to work on a 6 month contract in Birmingham for one of the UK Rail Industry's largest signalling engineering teams.
This role is that of a Design Manager / Design CRE working within the Birmingham Signalling Design team with responsibility for delivery and technical assurance of signalling design Stage work packages. The role will primarily focus on GRIP stage 5 works but experience of early GRIP (3 / 4) design will also be advantageous. The role will report to the Head of Design in our Birmingham office. The person filling this role will also undertake the role of Contractor's Responsible Engineer (Design) delegate for Stagework packages.

Primary functions of the role include :
* Providing leadership to, and coordinating the efforts of design teams
* Setting the safety and engineering culture for the design team
* Actively engaging with clients, winning work, and technically leading design estimating
* Understanding contractual requirements and communicating these to the design teams team
* Acting as the focal point for technical issues/co-ordination between the design teams and other disciplines / project team and client project engineers.
* Ensuring achievement of safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives
* Addressing engineering / design teams personnel performance issues
* Leading / participating inter disciplinary communication, activities and reviews
* Actively managing the engineering / design budget and supporting the project's commercial objectives
* Assisting with project close out and hand over of deliverables to the Client
* Supporting the collective learning of the organisation.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Significant UK signalling design experience (detailed design)
* Team leadership experience
* Understanding of risk management, CDM and CSM
* Understanding of the Network Rail GRIP process for Signalling projects

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Experience of undertaking Design CRE responsibilities on Network Rail infrastructure
* Holds applicable IRSE Licence(s)
