THE ROLE
It’s an exciting time to join the railway industry with billions of pounds of investment projects to be delivered in the coming years, both in the UK and around the world. Atkins are playing a key part in modernising the UK railway network. Being part of our transportation team, you will have opportunities to be involved in preparing infrastructure for a greener future on high profile projects across the length and breadth of the UK and internationally.

We are looking to recruit into our EMC Team. The work will include undertaking design of railway infrastructure systems, initially under the supervision of experienced engineers but rapidly taking on more responsibilities. In addition to office based design there will be a requirement to undertake site surveys and liaise with other disciplines and clients. Successful candidates will soon develop a detailed knowledge of railway infrastructure and how different engineering and non-engineering disciplines work together to create the whole system in a safety critical environment.

Training and support will be provided to ensure successful candidates are competent in the technical and safety aspects of the role and are able to develop a rewarding long-term career.

Successful candidates may also qualify for inclusion onto the Atkins Graduate Training Programme.

Responsibilities:

• Safety and technical assurance including EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), EMF (electromagnetic fields) and high voltage earthing and bonding.
• Participate in Hazard Workshops and Risk Assessments
• Design, calculations, drawings and assurance
• Project engineering of work packages
• Site works
• Report writing
• Client engagement activities from the outset, including attending project meetings, issuing project updates
• Planning, management and implementing works
• Responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out safely

Requirements:

We are looking for individuals with drive and enthusiasm, who possess outstanding communication skills and have the ability to work in a team. You will ideally hold a Masters or Batchelor Degree in Electrical /

Electronic Engineering / Physics / Power Distribution (or related courses) and possess the ability to communicate excellently with colleagues and clients and to operate in a competitive and commercial environment.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
