The Ideal Candidate

You’ll be an approachable engineer working within a close-knit team providing an area of specialism and industry knowledge concerning the retro-fitting of train control systems.

You will be a forward thinker to help develop solutions that meet the needs of customers and further help the bid teams to develop proposals that deliver commercially viable, highly customer focused bids. You will also relish the opportunity to work throughout the globe!

About the role

This exciting opportunity is working with the new European Train Control System (ETCS) in a Brand-new team in Derby. As the Design Engineer on Rolling Stock Electrical System you’ll be capable of initiating and managing detailed electrical systems related analysis of extensive, multi-layered systems. Will work closely with colleagues in the bids & tendering team, the engineering team members in the UK and Europe, project groups, the lines of business and heads of technology, to ensure that the project electrical systems engineering solutions meets our customers’ needs now, and in the future. Will work closely with the on-board train fitment design team to ensure all project related electrical system engineering interfaces are understood and implemented accordingly.

About you

You be experienced in Rolling Stock Electrical design in a variety of systems, but not necessarily all. You will have in-depth practical knowledge and experience of implementing and interfacing to train control systems, in particular TPWS, AWS, Wi-Fi, CCTV Traction Control, Brake Control, Vigilance, GSM-R and DAS. Being from a Retrofit background will enable you to understand the complexities of the designs you will undertake. You will work closely with the on-board train fitment design team to ensure all project related electrical system engineering interfaces are understood and implemented accordingly. This role will also give you the opportunity to have an active role in liaison with and supervision of third party design companies to ensure projects are progressed to an agreed programme.

The Requirements

• Educated with a degree in Electrical Engineering
• In depth practical knowledge and experience of implementing and interfacing to train control systems, in particular TPWS, AWS, Traction Control, Brake Control, Vigilance, GSM-R and DAS
• Good knowledge of implementing ETCS / CBTC / TBTC systems
