Electrical Engineer - Rail in Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Electrical fitter required to work on a long term contract with a large rail company based in Polmodie, Glasgow. Candidates must hold NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in relevant subject and have good good practical and technical knowledge and experience
Hours and Shifts:
37 hours per week on average over a 6 week roster.
The shifts will involve working a mixture of day and night shifts, including 1 out of every 2 weekends
Pay Rates:
£19.60/hour rising to £22.25/hour
(Paid through as a Limited Company Contractor; PAYE rates are available)
Start Dates:
This is an immediate start. As such, the successful candidate will be offered to start work ASAP.
Duties:
To work as a member of a team to service, maintain, repair and overhaul fleet locomotives, coaching stock and equipment, including the latest generation in train technology to laid down specifications.
As part of a team, ensure that the fleet is serviced and maintained in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner whilst constantly seeking to improve quality.
Responsibilities:
* Work as directed by and in co-operation with the Traincare Centre Production Manager
* Understand and abide to safety notices, rules and regulations and follow safe working practices, H & S.A.W, C.O.S.H.H. Comply with safe working practices including Electrical Safe Working procedures (ESW)
* Adhere to and work within Quality Systems to the current standard
* Work as part of a team, complete or assist in any of the team's activities to ensure work is completed on time to specification
* Fault finding (Primary and Secondary)
* With other team members will maintain good housekeeping systems of work areas
* Will use IT Systems that are work related
* Will carry out final work and process inspections as required
* Will be capable of accepting training in other skills and carry out duties, e.g. forklift, road vehicle driving (if certified), attend call-outs and breakdowns if required
* Will be capable of being trained in other activities/skills as required by the Traincare Centre Production Manager or Train Care Point Coordinator
* You will be required to carry out work as an authorised person which includes isolating the train for safety purposes
* Consistent achievement of train availability and reliability targets
* Consistent achievement of planned general inspection audits
* Successful achievement of safety critical work assessments
Qualifications Required:
* Time served apprenticeship or equivalent with associated technical qualifications (ONC/HNC/City & Guilds) or recognised equivalent in electrical engineering. NVQ 3 or equivalent
Experience Required:
* Experience of working to procedures, work instructions and vehicle maintenance instructions
* Knowledge and practical experience of train maintenance or relevant other (Aerospace, Military, Plant etc) - Rail/Rolling Stock would be an advantage
* Experience of mentoring and instructing other team members
* Any experience and/or knowledge of electrical isolation safety procedures would be highly advantageous
