PRINCIPAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsible for excellence in technical delivery to projects, placing our client in the position of preferred supplier to existing customers and open opportunities with new customers
Develop effective technical relationships with existing and new customers and supply chain partners
Responsible for application of a rigorous approach to estimating during the bidding process resulting in accurate and achievable project budgets and high quality competitive bids
Responsible for delivery of work packages agreed between the team of Electrical Engineers and other Engineering and Project teams to time, cost and quality
To provide technical support, advice and guidance to other team members
To take responsibility for promoting the company values and contribute to the strategic aims of the business
Contribute to the definition of new processes and procedures and development of existing processes and procedures within Electrical Engineering
PERFORMANCE TARGETS
Ensure effective utilisation of resources with the most appropriate skill levels and experience to meet project requirements
Ensure that technical delivery of all work packages meet project requirements and industry standards
Agree and manage work package budgets for the delivery of activity within their team of Electrical Engineers
Keep up to date with industry developments including new standards and technology
Ensure that technical knowledge and skills are developed and maintained as ‘best in class’
Contribute to the recruitment process and manpower planning for the Electrical Engineering team
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Chartered Engineer or working towards
Significant experience in the field of traction and rolling stock engineering
Electrical systems integration design including significant vehicle modifications
Electrical component specification and system design
Provision of Electrical feasibility studies, including component replacement
Production, review and approval of quantified risk assessments
Failure investigation, fault finding, analysis and rectification
Demonstrable knowledge of the railway industry, legislation and approvals processes
Design pack production – modification procedures, risk assessments and rating calculations
Production, review and approval of procurement specifications
Production, review and approval of Vehicle Acceptance Body (VAB)/Designated Body (DeBo)/Notified Body (NoBo) submissions
Project and work package control to time, cost and quality constraints
Significant experience of working on multi-disciplined complex engineering projects
Proven record of building effective relationships with customers and suppliers
Production, review and approval of Project cost estimating
Production, review and approval of Project proposals
Production, review and approval of fault level calculations
Production, review and approval of Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI), Vehicle Overhaul Instructions (VOI)
Provide expert advice on broad range of UK traction and rolling stock vehicle types and related electrical systems
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Production, review and approval of Vehicle Acceptance Body (VAB)/Designated Body (DeBo)/Notified Body (NoBo) submissions
Vehicle Acceptance Body (VAB)/Designated Body (DeBo)/Notified Body (NoBo) Signatory
New Build Invitation to Tender (ITT) preparation and response
Vehicle Maintenance Optimisation
Management of a team
Qualified in Failure Mode Cause and Effect Analysis (FMCEA) techniques
