We are searching for a Principal Electrical Engineer with proven CRE / Lead Engineer experience to join us here at AECOM. The York office has an established track record of successfully delivering major rail projects. Our office has good transport links and accommodates a multidisciplinary transportation design centre. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background, who share our enthusiasm and determination, to support our expanding workload.
You will have proven design experience of delivering projects to client’s satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, ensuring designs are economic and appropriate and that the relevant codes and standards are complied with. You will have strong business development and client relationships skills and the ability to develop and manage the work of others.
The team provides design, assessment, inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of rail projects. Our services offered to our clients include feasibility studies, scheme designs and detailed designs. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, TFL, Nexus, TfGM and SYPTE as well as various Tier 1 contractors. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international Rail infrastructure projects.
Rail projects currently under production by staff in our offices include:
Northumberland Line
Darlington Station
South Rail Systems Alliance
Victoria 3 Enhancements
Job Responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/ Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards.
Responsibility for the technical and commercial delivery of projects, with a specific remit to develop AECOM’s rail Electrification, Power (E&P) and MEP capabilities.
You will take responsibility for developing graduates and engineers in the E&P team through professional qualification with the relevant bodies and act as a mentor where necessary.
The role requires business development capability and you will act as a key contact for developing our relationship with key clients such as Network Rail.
An appetite for winning work is important for this role and developing AECOM’s capability to win “pure” Electrification, Power (E&P) and MEP work as oppose to work won by others within AECOM will also be a key performance indicator
Minimum Requirements :

Proven track record in railway Electrification, Power and M&E design and delivery
Experienced in the use of Network Rail, London Underground, Railway Group Standards as well as the relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
Understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
Good standard of written English and communication
Excellent track record of delivering various projects as a CRE/Lead Engineer role
Minimum Requirements :
Strong Electrical Engineering background with Rail industry experience

BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Electrical Engineering
Chartered Engineer (or working towards) and member of a professional institution
