Job Summary
Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy in office in Glasgow for an Electrical Engineer with experience of working on Network Rail’s infrastructure or similar networks.
The successful candidate will be working towards professional qualification with solid post graduate experience. You will have proven design experience in rail engineering, specifically in station or depot building services, or railway systems and electrification schemes, and in delivering projects to client’s satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, ensuring designs are economic and appropriate and that the relevant codes and standards are complied with. You will have strong business development and client relationships skills and the ability to develop and manage the work of others. You will also have the technical ability and knowledge and competence to guide and teach others.
The team provides design, assessment, survey/inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of rail projects. The team is involved in projects in the UK, Europe and the Middle East with a variety of clients. Our services offered to our clients include feasibility studies, scheme designs and detailed designs. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, TFL, Nexus, TfGM, SYPTE, Centro and Croydon Tramlink, as well as various Tier 1 contractors.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international Rail infrastructure projects. The team provides design, assessment, inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of rail projects and sits within a well-established multidisciplinary rail design consultancy office based in the centre of Glasgow.
Job Duties:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/ Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards.

Act as deputy to the Glasgow E&P team leader.

Receive brief from CEM / project manager.
-
Undertake CRE duties in line with Network Rail standards.

Undertake site survey in conduction with other engineers to ascertain existing asset condition.

Contribute to design development, design risk and mitigation and value engineering

Develop design for CEM..
-
Attend design team meetings as appropriate.
-
Obtain design information from sub-consultants/equipment suppliers.
-
Produce detailed design information including calculations and design sketches.
-
Liaise with CAD Technician for production of drawings.
-
Prepare technical reports.
-
Send design information to external parties.
-
Formulate the project specifications for construction.

Attend site during construction phase if necessary to ensure construction is in accordance with specifications/drawings.

Carry out risk assessments and provision of design information for Health and Safety file.
General Accountabilities :

Complete timesheets on a daily basis, allocating time correctly against job numbers.

Understand the basis of fees and costs.

Understand own contribution and impact on projects and develop an awareness of the implications for projects through the project management system.

Work within the financial and programme constraints and consider financial implications in producing design options.

Contribute and provide information for fee proposals.
Processes:

Gain awareness and understanding of the AECOM design procedures, their importance and their application to projects.

Understand and implement AECOM design quality assurance process and understand the importance of applying this system to all designs.

Understand and implement the Company’s Health and Safety Policy
Minimum Requirements
-
Experience of working on a variety of projects as a Design Engineer with some experience of dealing directly with clients.

Experience of electrical design in railway systems or building services.

Experience of working on major and minor rail infrastructure or building services projects.

Good understanding of the BS7671 Experienced in the use of rail standards, such as Network Rail, Railway Group Standards as well as the relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.

Understanding of Health and Safety including CDM, CSM and Safe by Design principles,

Good standard of written English and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
-
HNC, BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

Chartered Engineer (or working towards) and member of a professional institution IET/CIBSE
