Traction & Rolling Stock Electrical Engineer
Location: Derby
Duration: 6 months
Rate: £300-350 per day
My client is looking for a Electrical Engineer with a background in Traction and Rolling stock to work on thier project in the Derby area.
The ideal Electrical Engineer will be required to:
- Capable of initiating and managing detailed electrical related analysis of extensive, multi-layered systems.
- Will work closely with the engineering team members in the UK and Germany, project groups, the lines of business and heads of technology throughout the company, to ensure that the project electrical engineering solutions meets our customers' needs now, and in the future.
- Will take an active role in liaison with and supervision of third-party design companies to ensure projects are progressed to an agreed programme and technical issues are addressed.
- Provide key input and ideas to help determine the most appropriate technical, product and commercial solutions within the given geographical and technical environment.
Experience:
- In depth practical knowledge and experience of implementing and interfacing to train control systems, in particular TPWS, AWS, Traction Control, Brake Control, Vigilance, GSM-R and DAS.
- The application design of standard hardware in an on-train environment and documentation of the application design for train carried systems.
- Ability to understand and capture electrical engineering requirements (specifications, scenarios, rules, etc.) relating to the subsystem.
- Ability to produce supporting electrical design information, in particular electrical risk assessments, FMECA's, electrical protection calculations and earth bond calculations.
- Ability to design circuitry and specify electrical components required to facilitate the interface between systems.
- Experience of leading/participating in vehicle surveys to ensure sufficient information is gathered to facilitate the production of installation designs.
- In depth knowledge of depot procedures and site safety.
- An understanding of the approvals process required to modify a train and bring it back into service.
- Ability to undertake diagnosis and fault finding of complex safety related and safety critical control systems.
- Read and review requirements, creating written comments and attending reviews as required.
- Review engineering data for completeness and consistency.
- Review product installation designs to ensure adherence to guidelines and installation constraints
- Previous experience in liaising with subcontractors throughout the whole project lifecycle.
Desirable:
- Specific knowledge of implementing ETCS and/or CBTC systems
- Proven track record in working in major Sub-contract environments.
- Experience of working with CAD systems.
